27 Dresses........ opinion

So I deciced to go to the movies with wife. She chose as she has done ever since I chose lake placid (bad choice, bad movie, but thats for another opinion time). She wanted to see a good chick flick. We saw a shite chick flick (aren't they all shite?).
27 Dresses stars Katherine Heigl as Jane, a woman who has been bridesmaid 27 times (get it). She secretly loves her boss, George (Ed Burns, what are you doing in this Ed?). She meets Malcolm (James Marsden) who happens to write a wedding column for a newspaper. He's all cynical about weddings, she loves the whole marraige thing, they don't get along, have sex in a car, love each other, have huge fight, she hates him, they make up, they love each other, we all live happily ever after, what a load of old dogs bollox.
While all this is going on her trashy sister Tess (Malin Akirman, congrats on reaching your career zenith already girl) arrives on the scene and hooks George. She asks Jane to be bridesmaid at the wedding. This causes tension which culminates in a wedding rehearsel come-uppance for Tess from Jane blah blah blah.
I'm sorry, but this was mindnumbingly uninteresting. There was nothing origional. All the cliches were there, you know, the wacky best friend, unlikeable love interest who eventually wins over girl and audience (except me), cringe upon cringe sing song in bar etc etc etc. This kind of movie only really works with Meg Ryan or Julia Roberts in it and even then they're hit and bloody miss.
Katherine Heigl is likeable I suppose and she'll propably make better films than this. James Marsden, while I'm sure is nice to look at, has all the screen presence of a tube of fucking toothpaste. Malin Akirman ( I'm not sure I've spelt that right) is annoying, nuff said. Ed burns obviously needs cash for his next directorial effort and Judy Greer (wacky best friend) is funnyish when used.
All in all, not much good really.

Heigl (in my humble opinion) is the only redeemable quality the movie displays - even then I don't think she did herself too many favours by taking the role.
